Clay Oven restaurant review

On the recommendation of a coworker we checked out Clay Oven, an Indian restaurant in downtown San Mateo. It was solid, but not extraordinary. It seemed a little expensive for what it was, but that may just be that I’m not used to the bay area yet.

We had two main dishes (chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo), two orders of rice (everything is a la carte) and one side of nan and it came to $35.

I’ll tell you expensive. Tunzala became infatuated with flan while Turkey. Back in her home city of Baku we discovered a restaurant that served flan. I decided to take her out for desert. I had a cheesecake, she had flan and I decided to go for two (probably 8 oz.) glasses of juice. Final price = $20 US. Turns out the juices, which were not priced on the menu, were five bucks a pop. I felt cheated. We didn’t even have a proper meal. Then again, the two of us having Mexican food there came to about $45 dollars between the two of us.
